The summer before their senior year at Camas High School, Emma Jimenez, Rylee Mcdonald, Mason Minder, Amanda Shi, Maddie Smit and Sarah Yang helped the Washington Timbers 97 Green soccer team win the Presidents Cup Sunday, at Overland Park, Kansas.

The four-day tournament featured 40 of the best girls and boys U-13 to U-17 youth soccer teams in the country.

The Washington Timbers knocked off regional tournament champions from North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio. They outscored their opponents 5-0.

After battling CWSC United Red, of Ohio, to a scoreless draw Saturday, the Timbers Green came back the next day and defeated United Red 2-0 in the championship game.

Mcdonald netted a left-footed drive in the 42nd minute to put Washington up 1-0 at halftime. Forward Kaili Brundage delivered an insurance goal off of a cross from a teammate in the 60th minute.

A quick strike in the sixth minute by Alex Sanders was all the Timbers needed to beat HV Pride, of Pennsylvania, 1-0 Friday. The Pride had an opportunity to tie the score on a penalty shot in the first half, but the Timbers’ keeper protected the net.

Sanders and Brundage scored goals in the second half to help Washington defeat CUFC 97 Green, of North Carolina, 2-0 Thursday. Sanders’ goal came in the 50th minute. Brundage doubled the lead 19 minutes later.
